11th edition with impressive 3D spectacle
Assignment
The latest edition of the Schlagerfestival again took place in the Ethias Arena Hasselt. For the spectacular 10th anniversary celebration last year, this edition certainly couldn't be inferior. Also this year Painting with Light was asked to invent set design, lighting and video design. The many years of collaboration between PSE and Painting with Light ensures that both complement each other and that both have trust in their cooperation. With the same dynamism and enthusiasm we accepted this challenge and started thinking of an inventive design to surpass the one of last year. The briefing for this case was to come up with something more modern and fresh after 10 years.
Solution
For this 11th edition of the Schlagerfestival we had the plan to create 3D volumes by use of various LED panels in the set. To acquire this 3D effect, we placed the LED panels in such a way that the position itself already created a certain depth to the set. The 3D effect of this set was strengthened by special developed 3D content. Lots of positive comments refer to a 'Eurovision Songcontest' style. It was a challenge to generate a different ambiance for each and every artist, each of which performed multiple songs.
Luc Peumans was responsible for set and lighting design together with Carlo Zaenen who was responsible for the production as LD. Leon Driessen of CueCre8ion collaborated as a lighting desk operator. Michaël Al-Far created the video content with the aid of Katleen Selleslagh and Aitor Biedma. For directing the video content a d3 Technologies 4 x 4 Pro server has been used that got programmed and operated by Jo Pauly of Visual Solutions. Painting with Light recently invested in these d3 servers.
Creating the content took 14 days while the total preproduction took place in our studio by using WYSIWG and d3 visualisers for 3 days.
In that way, we arrived well prepared in the Ethias Arena, where PRG Belgium, under the expertise of Walter D'Haese, built the impressive set.
