Ghost Rockers in the House Tonight
Challenge
The band at the heart of popular Belgian TV series Ghost Rockers – produced by Studio 100 and syndicated throughout Europe – hit the road for a series of Belgian gigs … They wanted fresh, energetic rock ‘n’ roll style lighting and a design that was scalable to fit a variety of different sized venues.
The lighting also needed to support the show narrative and include a couple of tricks as well as a classical touch of theatrical magic in the form of a Pepper’s Ghost!
With no set as such, apart from some low stairs and a couple of risers, some additional structural elements needed to be provided utilizing lighting techniques.
Solution
A series of active - mappable - light battens were rigged upstage in 10 columns, some continuous and some broken, which together with four vertical trusses at the back provided the structural features. Behind these, a backdrop with a scenic version of the band’s logo was illuminated, adding more depth.
The Pepper’s Ghost was created by using an LED floor on which the ghosted character appeared, the image bounced into the audience via an angled screen immediately above centre stage.
Overhead, four motion controlled trusses provide more contrast in the architecture and definition of the performance space.
LED wash beams were utilized as his primary wash fixtures - ideal for this tour with its catchy music and enormous energy, with multi-purpose hard-edged moving lights positioned overhead and on the stage deck for layering effects on top of the base washes.
The rig was completed with a selection of conventional lightsources.
