Giving the soul back to the coal mines of Genk
Assignment:
The city of Genk and Infrax wanted to create something unique at the site of the old Winterslag coal mine in the city, which has been completely restored. The various buildings are now used as a cultural centre, a cinema, restaurants, a school, etc. Right at the heart of the site is a big square used as an event space, presided over by enormous former shaft towers.
Solution:
Painting With Light created a master plan for lighting the entire site. After receiving approval from the public authorities, they started designing and adding visual wow-factors everywhere. Site-wide lighting is controlled by one system. All the lights are RGB an AWB so – literally - the sky is the limit! The lighting design has won a coveted ‘City People Light’ Award.
